Barry Lynn to Speak at Second Annual
InterFaith Day of Prayer & Reflection
On the South Steps of the State Capitol
May 5, 2005
Barry Lynn, Executive Director of the national organization for Americans United for Separation of Church and State will participate in a celebration of religious liberty at the State Capitol on May 5th. He will be joined by Dr. Muhammed Cetin, President of the Institute for Interfaith Dialogue and members of the religious community in Oklahoma.
“Let Freedom Ring: A Celebration of Freedom of Conscience” renews a civic event that the Oklahoma Chapter of Americans United and Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists organized last year to include and involve people of all faiths and people of no faith in observing a day that congress first proclaimed to be a National Day of Prayer in 1952. The Interfaith event was organized as a response to the promotion of theocratic politics and policies at the conservative Christian prayer rallies being held each year since 1988. This year the Interfaith event is being sponsored by the Interfaith Alliance of Oklahoma with the support of Americans United, Mainstream Baptists, and houses of worship from across the rich diversity of religious traditions in Oklahoma.
